They always say life is short. It’s a nice reminder to hurry up, chase things, and not waste time. But I don’t think it’s actually true.
“Short” only exists in comparison with something else.
Compare your lifespan to the age of the universe, and yeah, life is pretty fucking short. But that’s the wrong comparison.
The real bar isn’t the universe.
The real bar is zero.
99.9% of people who could ever exist never will. They never took a breath. Never laughed, cried, loved, failed. Never got a sunrise or a sunset. Never had a good day or a bad day. Never even got a chance.
Compared to them, your life isn’t short at all. It’s unbelievably long. It’s extra time that almost nobody gets.
Once you understand this, you stop obsessing over running out of time. You stop treating your life like a countdown clock. You stop acting like you’re behind. You start realizing you’re playing with house money.
Life isn’t short.
Life is rare.
And rare things aren’t meant to be wasted.
So go do the thing. Start the project. Take the risk. Say the words you’ve been avoiding. Make the move you’ve been postponing.
You’re not running out of time.
You’re living on bonus time.
Act like it.
